A sibling DNA test is done to determine the statistical likelihood that two siblings share the same biological parent. This means that we are establishing a genetic relationship between siblings and parent without testing the DNA of the parent concerned. A siblings test highlights any of the following sibling to sibling relationships:
Are you half sibling or full siblings? If you are half siblings you will share around half of your genetic material and share only one parent. If you are full siblings, then you will share the vast bulk of your genetic material and thus, share both biological parents.
Are you half siblings or no siblings? If you are no siblings at all you will have very little, if any, genetic material in common. (Although you could have common genetic material by random chance as DNA between all individuals is similar to some degree or other).
A siblings test is done in cases where direct comparison of parent-child DNA is not possible by means of a paternity DNA test or Maternity DNA test. If a parent is willing to be tested, we advise sending in their sample as well to help give a stronger result.
Read more about the different types of sibling tests by clicking on the links provided:
- STR test – brothers and sisters wishing to know if they share both parents can do this test;
- X-Chromosome test – a DNA test that will determine whether two sisters from different mothers share the same father;
- Y-Chromosome test – a DNA test that will establish if brothers share the same father;
- MtDNA test – this test is done to confirm that people tested share the same maternal line.
We offer our sibling DNA test starting at $399. Go on to order your test – Order Here.
