As you may know, DNA is a unique genetic fingerprint we each have. Moreover, DNA testing has reached and overcome unprecedented boundaries and provides accurate results to paternity DNA tests and a host of other DNA tests. Moreover, today, DNA infidelity testing gives a whole new meaning to the saying cheaters never prosper.
DNA Infidelity Testing: Clearing Doubts
It is easy to speculate and even to get carried away in speculation regarding a partner’s fidelity; many times these guesses are unfounded and based on suspicions arising from human emotions such as insecurity and jealousy. The infidelity DNA test is based on scientific technology which will tell you whether there is any foreign genetic material on a surface, for example, a sheet. By foreign genetic material we refer to genetic material that does not belong to yourself or your partner. The DNA test will require comparing genetic material from the suspect cheaterand the stain found to see if the stains are from the same person or a different person. If you suspect the genetic material in the stain could also be yours then you will need to send in a sample of your own DNA.
DNA samples for Infidelity Tests
The infidelity test normally involves finding anything from a used condom, a used Kleenex, blood on a sheet, body hair and a host of others such samples. It is important to know that not all samples may be suited for laboratory analysis and factors which can affect and degrade the DNA samples include:
- Time (how long has the sample been lying around)
- External conditions (excessive heat or humidity or fluctuating temperatures)
- Chemicals (did you realize the stain on the sheets after washing them? This may mean that the chemicals in soap may have broken down the DNA)
Degraded samples do not necessarily mean the samples are useless. In fact, unlike paternity DNA testing which requires a detailed DNA profile, infidelity testing can be successful even with degraded profiles. Many times it is only once the laboratory has began testing that you will know whether the sample you provided (that was exposed to for example, chemicals) will yield any results.
Make sure that the moment you locate the suspect genetic material you try to keep the DNA sample in a dry place. Once you can contact the DNA testing company they can fully advise you on how to collect, store and post your sample.
Infidelity DNA Testing: Understand a Bit More
This type of DNA testing can establish a number of facts including the following:
Is the genetic material you have found actually human and is there any genetic material to test? There may be cases where no genetic material is present which could mean it may simply be a food stain or perhaps a stain left by a pet.
Gender of the Donor: Analysts will undertake what is known as multiple gender testing. This means that they need to test to check whether the genetic material found belong to a male or a female.
Finally, if a stain is found to contain genetic material and a DNA profile is extracted, this needs to be compared to another sample provided to determine if the two profiles match. Thus if for example, you have found a stain but you think there is a chance the stain may be yours, then you can send in the stain and a sample of your own DNA to see if the two match. If the DNA test shows the stain does not match the DNA sample you provide (usually an oral saliva swab) then you simply conclude that the stain belongs to someone else.
You need to be aware that DNA testing for infidelity involves the purely scientific side of DNA analysis and will steer clear of drawing any conclusions about the faithfulness of any person involved. The test will simply tell you whether there is foreign genetic material and you will have to draw your own conclusions and plan as you see fit. |
