Grandparentage DNA Test

Grandparentage DNA testing will tell you whether a grandmother and/or grandfather are the paternal relatives of their grandchild. This test is often done in the place of a paternity DNA test in cases when the biological father of a child is unwilling, unavailable or deceased and thus, a paternity DNA test is not possible.

Using the DNA of alleged father’s parents we can tell you whether these individuals are genetically related to their grandchild/children and thus, whether the children tested are their father’s children.

We distinguish between two types of grandparentage tests:

• Duo grandparentage DNA test: this is the ideal test with regards to testing as it allows us to reconstruct both grandparents’ genetic profiles and have a fuller insight of genetic inheritance patterns in relation to the child.
• Single grandparentage test:  When only one grandparent is available for testing, then can carry out the test, albeit less accurately, with the DNA of a single grandparent. In this case, if the grandchild’s mother can provide us with a DNA sample, it would provide a more conclusive result. If the test involves alleged grandfather and male grandchild, you will need a Y chromosome test.

You results will show the probability of a biological grandparentage and this will be expressed as a probability percentage.
