Important points to keep in mind

The lab cannot perform an avuncular test if the aunt / uncle is NOT a full sibling to the alleged father in question.

We strongly suggest including the sample of a known parent to provide stronger results. Usually having this sample means we are able to provide a stronger result by excluding her share in the genetic heredity of the child thereby enabling a more focused comparison of DNA between the father’s relatives and the child.

Due to New York State Department of Health regulations, we cannot offer any peace of mind paternity or relationship tests to New York residents. However, we can offer legal paternity and relationship tests in New York. Contact us or click here for more information.

Pricing for the test

homeDNAdirect US offers the avuncular DNA test starting from only $299. This price includes one aunt or uncle and one niece or nephew (as in, the alleged father’s child). You will receive you results in only 5-7 working days!

How is an aunt/uncle test carried out?

The standard test requires samples collected via mouth swabs which are provided in our easy-to-use home sample collection kit. Any of the following participants can take part: aunt/uncle/nephew/niece; you may choose to add more relatives, for example another uncle or auntie.

Once the DNA is analysed, the avuncular index will be calculated depending on the common genetic material shared between the people tested. To be noted, that the genetic material shared between aunt and/or uncle and their niece or nephew is less than that shared between father and child. The DNA profiles of all participants are extracted from a simple pain-free mouth swab. For instructions on how to collect the DNA samples, visit our sample collection guide.
